Day eleven. Goog’s Track 12.7.26

Another day, uneventful pack up, and off onto the track about 10:15-ish.

A lovely dawdle along the track until one of the sand dunes provided some challenge. I was caught halfway up waiting for Stef and Meg who got stuck. I then couldn’t get up and had to back down and have a couple of goes, I let my the tyres down some more and made it over no worries.
We stopped for a wee break and to gather some wood and stopped for lunch shortly after.

After lunch I took the lead and was enjoying a bit more birdlife on the easy Sandy curvy track…

…until a quite potholed sand dune caught me out and required backing down and having another go. With a few more herbs I was able to get over as did Col. Phil was also caught out by it and had to air down further as Stef did in preparation.

This all takes time and we sit and wait while they prepare and make another attempt. There was a car behind us that caught up while Phil was airing down – Fergus and his Dad from the Mornington Peninsula. They were lovely and waited and chatted to Stef. Happy to cheer Phil over the dune. Stef let Fergus go first and he ‘saw parrots’ also. Fergus’ Dad shared this over the radio. They made it and so did Stef. Fergus and Dad stopped for a quick chat as they passed me waiting on the side for the others.

Every time we stop there is something to see for photos, etc.
The beauty of it is just the great expanse of nature laid out before us up and over every dune there is often something different.

While stopped atop a dune waiting for the others to get over I was struck by the silence – a little bit of breeze fluttering through the trees but just silence.Bliss!!!!

We all had an encounter with the 🦜 parrots this arvo. I was relieved to see that it wasn’t only me that got caught out.
We travelled well today passing markers 6 -10 and travelling through Yelabinna Wilderness Area. We had to keep travelling today after our 3:30 pull up time to get out of the ‘no roadside camping’ part of the track.
Once past the boundary of Yellabina we looked for an eventually found a good campsite and we decided to stay TWO nights. This allows us a day to phaff, cook our roast for tea and not have to wake up and pack up. We set up including awnings for Dundeks and I – as it’s worth putting up for two nights.
Leftovers all around for tea tonight.
It was a mild evening – very little wind and some cloud or fog helping keep the cold out. We sat around and enjoyed a great little fire with our collected wood.

A bit of fun with blowers stoking the fire and we finished the night with 3 duelling blowers stoking the heat around 3 billy’s heating water for hot water bottles.
