Day ten. Goog’s Track 11.7.26

****please if you comment, leave your name as mostly I can’t identify who is making comment****

Bit of a power issue overnight, I woke to no power in the TVan and no power to the auxiliary battery in the car so I couldn’t get any water for the Billy to make a cup of tea. (First world problem) -had to wait for others to awake, thankfully we travel with a mobile auto repair crew and Stef and Phil got my issues sorted with a little bit of overseeing from Col. Thankfully things are charging as I drive this morning.

Despite the hiccups we were still all packed up and out of camp by about 10:15 which is great.

I woke to a very pink sky out the window which had disappeared by the time I got shoes on to take a photo. The sun is shining. Clouds have moved away and it’s looking good for a chill day in the Outback Bush of South Australia.

The shapes and wonders of nature are all around. Col pulled up for a plant, so I got out to look. Amazing what you see when you stop to look. Small orange lichen, ants creating perfect round sandhills, puffballs under the Spinifex, Honey grevillea and many more plants seen throughout the day. (This was the first of many stops for a plant that needed photographing)

The first point of interest along Goog’s Track was the Denton Memorials with memorials to Goog, his son Digger and another of the crew who helped push through the track. Space is reserved for Jenny Denton, Goog’s wife and daughter I think.
There is also a Money Tree – with coins stuck into the tree – for change for Digger when he needed to buy a beer.

The next point of interest was a side trip to Goog’s Lake for lunch and a look around.

The sand dunes were good fun. A couple of the crew had to adjust vehicle settings and have a second go to get over a couple. No big drama though.

Stef and Meg towing their hire cub camper.

We found a place to set up camp about 4:00 and settled in. Wood was a bit hard to find but we managed enough of a pile to get us though the evening.

We cooked inside Mary and Phil’s Ultimate camper tonight – butter chicken. Dundeks had beef stroganoff and Col some snags and an egg. Mary J had some nibbles as lunch was enough today.

We chatted over cheese and nibbles before lighting the fire and sitting around. Lucky again that rain was limited to a spot or two and the breeze dropped away to almost nothing.

A bit of fun with blower to help stoke the fire and keep us warm.

Then to bed, once the hot water bottles were filled and the wood burnt down, fire covered and dishwashing water used for dousing. The usual nightly ritual.

Billy on for hot water bottles. Our collection of lunch and dinner cans burnt off in the fire. Ready for crushing and into bins tomorrow.

  1. So good to see the photos and read the trials and tribulations of modern day adventurers, so lucky with the flowers again. xoxo Nanna B
