Day nine. Ceduna to 55kms out on Goog’s Track 10.7.26

Out of the park about 10:15 off to look at Pinky lookout that Mary and Col found yesterday. We saw salt ready for export at the wharf and silos. There were dolphins, a seal and cormorants.

Then I went off to buy the roast meats, Stef and Megan the veg, Mary and Phil last fuel and Colin Mary are following.

Our roasts from gold cup winning butcher.

Finally finished our various shopping bits and turned onto the Goog’s track turn off at 11:45. Gravel road just a km or two later.

Pretty quickly onto Goog’s. With a stop at one of Goog’s bulldozer at the start of the track surrounded by paddocks of oats various wheat and barley maybe.

Then we were onto the Sandy tracks with some corrugations and the start of nicely wooded countryside.

Our second stop to make lunch and air down our tyres ready for the afternoon ahead.

We struck some rain but the track is Sandy so no issue.

Stopped atop a dune to look at some mushies poking through the sand and also found some other flowering shrubs Grevillea or Hakea.

Then a few more dunes and rain and we had one of our number taking a complacent approach to a dune that might have required a couple of runs to get over.

The track stretches before us.

Then we heard some traffic on the radio and a couple of motorbikes and a car behind us. We pulled into a camp spot at 3:19 and waited for Dundeks and Mary and Phil.

The sun poked through and it was quite warm to set up and collect wood, erect the toilet tent. Then time for nibbles as the sun lowered towards setting in the West.

We were so early set up that we played the first Finska Test in the Goog’s Ashes series.
Tonight was the inaugural Test. The pitch was quite a challenge with uneven sandy surface scarred by low shrubbery and various dead wood. Tonight’s winner was Phil, Col in second place and me in the Bronze position. Stay tuned for updates.

Spotted a number of satellites. Tea was had and as we were doing the dishes the clouds scudded over with a few sprinkles of rain.
