Day fourteen. Goog’s Track 15.7.26

Pack up day today😵‍💫. After 3 nights here we have a few more things to put away. Awnings etc. Last night was the first night at this camp location we’ve actually had dew settling on the canvas, so a bit of time to dry out in the sunshine this morning was handy. Once packed up we reloaded the wood we hadn’t burnt on Stef and Meg’s camper and it was time to rock ‘n’ roll.

We headed off for Mt Finke.

We drove a little way up the mountain and I enlisted a bit of low range to climb the rocky ascent and descent. Nothing to hoary about that drive up, not sure the video will show how steep it was.

We spent a little bit of time photographing tiny flowers and the view and things of interest before hitting the trail again to join up with Goog’s track again.

The sun is shining, blue sky with a few puffy clouds here and there, a brilliant Outback day.

Today’s lunch was more leftover roast meat and veg on vita- weats for me and in a wrap for Mary and Phil but the pièce de résistance is the cappuccino and scones with homemade raspberry jam (MJ) and cream. Who says camping is a hard life?

After lunch we were headed for the end of Goog’s but got waylaid by a patch of beautiful wildflowers. It was as close as we’ve seen to a carpet of flowers and the more we looked, the more we saw. Mary M also spotted a bird which I tried to capture with the long lens – a Red capped Robin according to Col and his bird book.

It was an easy drive today, but after only 43kms we were at almost 4.00 and decided it was time to make camp. Col found a good spot and we settled in.

Set up camps, dug the fire pit and toilet pit, set up loo with seat and tent, then it’s time for Cheese and nibbles in the shade to start as the day was warm. It soon cooled off.

Before tea we had a daylight Fourth Finska Test. Seems we were mostly worse by daylight. Mary J was the only player in first two rounds NOT to have a strike.
Results – Gold – me, Silver to Phil and Bronze to Stef with everyone else striking out.

Our dinner tonight was curried snags which we did in my Bedourie oven- a bit of a challenge cooking over a very hot fire. But the end result was worth it. The freshly seasoned oven stood up well.

Then it was stargazing and chatting around the fire. There were many satellites spotted early on, and several shooting stars. There were a couple of shooting stars confirmed (meaning seen by more than one person.)

Hot water bottles prepped and off to bed.
It was hard to leave the SkyView tonight, no moon and the whole sky from horizon to horizon was littered with stars. No moon so black as black. Just couldn’t stop taking pics.
