Nic and Sue’s Euro River Cruise and l bits on the side. Autumn 2026. Day 20 – Plan C. London.

Another not so early start. Out to the bus stop to walk around Little Venice.

It was a nice canal side walk with lots of canal boats moored as homes, cafes and businesses. We met up with Paddington and another couple of blokes just standing around.

Through Rembrandt Garden and along Regent Canal which was not quite as well cared for as the other end. Then we had to leave as the canal went under the Maida Tunnel, this took us into more flat style accommodation of the Lisson Estate. Then back to the Artsy section of Regent Canal with the boats parked straight to the towpath here.
Curious and quirky way to live. The boats had access to power in some sections. Others seemed to have gas.
All in all a nice quiet walk without hoards of tourists and people along the canal.

Another bus to Camden market where we walked down the Main Street and crossed the canal only to strike it lucky with a canal boat coming up through the lock.

There were two older lock keepers having their cuppa who helped make it happen. Good to see it all in action. Met a nice lady from the Midlands who was in town for a Country music gig – Orville Peck.

Video 1. Young bloke off the boat has chatted to the Lock Keepers and is sitting on the gate end on the left awaiting his boat.
Entering the Lock.

Wandered through the markets.

I bought a belt from Jason the leather worker who hand cut it and put the buckle on there and then. Figure it’s a good memento and useful.

Lunch from the food trucks. I had a tasty masala chicken roti wrap and fresh OJ.

Camden is pretty heavy on tourist tack, but lots of grunge, music stuff including a Music walk of Fame. There are bulk shops and food places. Well worth the look.

Then it was time to go our separate ways. I gave Sue another lesson in Google Maps and off she went home to Pembridge Palace.
I hunted down the Amy Winehouse mural and walked along the Regent Canal a bit more. There are quite a number of locks to get through up towards Little Venice.

Then went in the opposite direction to catch the train into London SE where my photography tour happens later.
The underground (tube) older trains are super noisy and warm – the connecting windows are open for air and let in all the track noise too. I have a short burst on video.

Video: Loud.

Russell Brand Pre-Trial Hearing: Comedian and actor Russell Brand arrived at Southwark Crown Court for the first of a scheduled two-day pre-trial hearing. Brand denies three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one allegation of indecent assault ahead of his main trial starting Monday, October 12, 2026.

I wandered around and stumbled upon The Borough Market, boy was it busy.

Found a place to sit for a bit with a Portuguese tart and coffee and then walked to meeting place.

This one woman show. She pressed the dough into the tins, served customers, made coffee and then filled them and baked them.

Something going on over the fence at Crown Court Southwalk. Googled and found:

Well after paparazzi whipped out ladders and stools to get a vantage point over the car and a bit of argy bargy with bodyguard, Russell with a woman by his side emerged from the court.

The photography tour wasn’t quite what I expected. It was David taking photos of me in front of various sights. (A bit awkward to say the least) anyway might be a profile pic amongst them. Can’t believe we walked a lot of the locations Sue and I had found ourselves. And at Tower Bridge we missed a boat sailing through. We were down at river level 5 minutes before. Then on the bridge when it was being raised and traffic stopped and an old sailing ship sailed through. Wished I looked better earlier. Strangely, I asked David if he had seen the bridge raised. He said maybe 3 times in 14 years!!! Anyway I took some shots to prove I was ON Tower Bridge when it was being raised.

Walked a lot of steps in the tour and he took me to a few locations we hadn’t been, such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Blackfriars. Also up a shopping centre to views of St Paul’s.

Then I left David and found a place for a well earned cool drink. It was starting to darken so a few more pics on way home.

Had a message from Sue, she had had some challenges getting ‘home’ and bravely went out again – very impressive!! Not sure who would get home first.
We keep finding familiar names from Monopoly – today Islington, Whitechapel, Mayfair again, Whitechapel, King’s Cross, Euston.

I headed towards home and diverted to something I found on instagram- The Man in the Clock in Paddington. Thought it might look cool at night.

Video: The Man in the Clock.

One good thing about the underground is I can write my blog as there is nothing to see except stations.
Took a while to wend my way home. I’d be totally stuffed without Google Maps. It’s so clever.
Sue safely home by cab at about 7pm. Me by about 8:45.

  1. Wow! Thats a big day out. A little disappointed ( though not surprised) to hear that Camden market is now a bit touristy and full of tack! I have to remember it was 40 years ago that I used to hang out there but it was authentic, artsy and you could genuinely find some amazing little artefacts, curios and mucus stuff there! Oh well, all for the tourists!
