Nic and Sue’s Euro River Cruise and l bits on the side. Autumn 2026. Day 18 – Plan C. London.

Lucky to get a couple of tickets for a Ted Lasso tour. So after breaky we were off to Richmond. First a bus to train station , our first London train adventure. We’d be totally stuffed without Google Maps – so far it’s served us well getting around.
A bit brisker this morning and a bit of fog (no pea souper though).

Managed to get where we needed to be by just after 9, a little look around the Art Deco
Richmond Station then across to the meeting place for a pre-tour cuppa.

The tour began, visiting sites used as locations in Ted Lasso (Apple TV for those who don’t know it)
Richmond Theatre (the gala ball “claw” scene with Rebecca and Keeley)

Richmond is actually a well to do suburb, famous for its park – Richmond Park.

The Richmond Green has a long Royal history with Henry the 7th having a palace here. The gatehouse and wardrobe still exist (wardeobe of Henry 8th wives) and then winter palace of Elizabeth the First.

Richmond Bridge is the oldest surviving bridge on the Thames. Recently they have had some huge tides that actually had the water rising up the palace garden walls.

Planes were flying into Heathrow very low over Richmond every minute. Sean told us that the filming was timed to occur when planes were flying in another direction. They change flight paths – I guess to give the various suburbs a break. They were low, loud and often.

Sean provided a great little tour and walk around Richmond. Just us and Deborah and Steve from San Francisco, so it was personal and easy to move around as the crowds built throughout the morning. We also got some Royal history. And of course the location of various shoots for all 4 seasons of Ted Lasso.
I will try and recall the detail in the captions.

We finished outside The Princes Head Pub or The Crown and Anchor from show. There was also a Ted Lasso shop that we had small spend in. (How could you not having come all this way and loving the show so much.)

A wander along the street towards station – a nice toasted Croque Red Pepper and Haloumi for lunch at Richmond &Paul Artisan Bakery before hopping the train to make our way to Harrods.

We had a couple of changes to make, with the stations and names a lot are familiar names and some not so much. The old brick bridges we cross over and under must have been built so well all those years ago. We crossed the Thames River with the tide out.
Our second train was the Piccadilly line towards Cockfosters for 5 stops before alighting at Knightsbridge to Harrods.

This train was much fuller than our others and was underground train and we did go underground and got off right at Harrods.
It was a bit mad there.

Caught a bus back to Hotel.

Drove past The Albert Hall
This is what the poor bus drivers put up with all day.

Once back at hotel I went for a walk around the neighbourhood- around Kensington – walked down a street full of embassies: Japan, France, Nepal, Kuwait, Russian residence. Finland, Norwegian. Romania I’m guessing the USA was the one with a jumping castle and large Halloween display. No pics allowed along this street. There were many others not identified. Quite a few flying Euro Flag. Much later in my walk I passed Kosovo.

Then I walked around to the Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens (again very dry and impacted by the hot summer) I sought out some of the things to see around the gardens, then walked across to see Albert Hall a bit closer.

Out to Greek just down the road. I enjoyed the meal. The Greek Papa in charge was a bit of a character but a bit bossy with his staff. Nice food.

  1. 2 amazing days in London Nic. The Ted Lasso tour would have been fun. The pomp and ceremony is a sight to see. Have you got time to see the QE 2 frock exhibition at Buckingham Palace? It closes soon. The
    weather looks kind.

  3. jealous of the Ted Lasso tour! What fun! Were the biscuits good? Ex local tip, the train is called the tube locally! So much to see in London! Are you going to Carnaby St, Camden Lock/markets (if you’re a market person?) Hyde Park corner to see mad people make speeches on boxes – is that still a thing? Trafalgar Square to get shat on by the pigeons? 🤣 Enjoy! You may well have to go back to London another time to see some more subtle local delights. Sandra

  4. It’s a fabulous experience to go to the places that are important from a movie, tv series or book. It makes you feel part of it all. Rohan & I found the book shop in Bloomsbury where Black Books was set. Most of my travels in the UK have been inspired by movies & tv series.

You are definitely making the most of your time in London, there is too much to see in one trip.

Hope you thoroughly enjoy the rest of your travels. Janine

  5. Love these photos especially from Harrods, I worked in the Fresh market hall, next door to the fish department and we were around the corner from the chocolate section, we used to skyve off and go buy some chocolates. 🙂
