Plan is to get off Skye today and start driving South with no firm plan just heading towards the Lakes District.

The car survived the night parked across road, managed to squeeze in beside and behind the bus before breaky.
There were beautiful sunrise pinks and oranges over Broadford harbour.

Packed and loaded and on the road by 8:15.
Around the lochs and hills to Kyleakin where the bridge crosses back to Mainland Scotland.

Bridge st Kyleakin. Skye to the mainland.

We continued to wend through green mountains and beside lochs.
Saw a couple of dead deer, managed to see no live ones to date, despite road signs everywhere telling us to watch for deer.
Did a u turn for photo stop at Eilean Donan castle. Built on an island in the loch.

Then it was driving through the amazing countryside. A few road pics along the way.

A pitstop at Spean Bridge Mill -‘got some cash – British Pounds finally and a coffee and tea with a nice proper scone with jam and cream.

The scenery continued to amaze us. The mountains were more rugged, how do they plant trees on such steep slopes? How impressed would it all look under a layer of snow? We drove into a ski resort – there was a chairlift running up the mountain but we had a look at the views and kept on our way.

We skirted around the edges of Glasgow on the motorway before getting off and zig zagging our way along ‘a’ and ‘b’ roads to get to Dumfries.

We made a last minute booking via Booking.com at Hamilton House BnB and rocked up about 10minutes later. Parking out the back and we are on the ground floor. Our host – Derek was lovely.

We settled in before heading back into centre of Dumfries to have a look, booked for tea at La Dolce Vita on Derek’s recommendation. Then a short walk across some historic bridges and around the street. There are lots of beautiful old buildings around the city, the skyline was full of towers, steeples, churches, turrets. It’s a university town.

Dinner was yum and we were hungry – no lunch today.
On return home we planned our remaining route and accommodation in the UK which is a good thing to have sorted. As we expected there is never enough time.
Gotta say I loved Skye and could drive the Scottish countryside and never tire of the scenery both natural and man made.
