Day twenty. Fowlers Bay to Ceduna 21.7.26

Pack up day to leave Fowlers Bay today after another three nighter which was lovely. Such a quiet fishing Village and a nice place to chill.

Phil doing some acrobatics phaffing with the freezer again.

We had a short 80km run to Ceduna today but we made a day of it by taking in a few sights along the way.
A quick stop at Penong to fuel up a little and get a coffee.

From here we headed out to Point Sinclair and Lake Macdonnell.

Along the road there was sand piled up in grid Lines – potentially gypsum we think. GRA Mining Operations.

We stopped at Cactus Beach and looked at the beaches and some keen surfers.

On around to Point Sinclair /Port LeHunte Jetty. Tiny little places salted away on the most spectacular coastline. Rocky shores, white dunes, sand coloured dunes, bird life scrub etc. a top lunch stop. There was a jetty at Port LeHunte – the South Aussies do ‘good jetty.’
Sadly there was a tragic tale here. A young 11yo boy was swimming here in the mid 70’s – out to a crayfish trawler to get some crays for his Mum. He was attacked and killed by a white pointer shark while the men on the boat watched helplessly. This resulted in the local community constructing the shark net swimming area at the jetty.

We wended our way along back roads to Ceduna.
I was lucky to have an echidna cross the road in front of me. I got some pics and enjoyed the drive.

We stopped to look at McKenzie ruins,

then on to look at Denial Bay with lots of birds and interesting historical information.

Finally into Ceduna with a stop at quarantine, where we were pretty much waved through as we hadn’t come from WA and Dundeks had gone first and told them we’d done the circuit via Goog’s Track.
Another stop up the road a little at the Oyster Barn where Meg purchased some Japanese Oysters and we had some salt and pepper squid pieces. We ate up on the roof. We expected squid rings but they were quite large pieces and they were delicious.W

While waiting for our meal we could hear roosters crowing. At first we thought it was a phone ring. Turned out a block from Perth had been to a poultry show in Ballarat and was on his way home – purchasing 15doz oysters to take home. He has also won breeder of show and had a few ribbons for his chooks. He was very happy for us to have a look at them.

Onto our regular haunt in Ceduna at Shelly Beach CP

Our home away from home in Ceduna.

where Stef is meeting up with his sister Julie and brother in law Ron and friends of theirs – Ken and Marion , who are on route to Perth from Darwin and Victoria respectively, for the Supercar races in Perth.
We set up camp and sat chatting for a bit before showering then ordering wood fired pizza for tea from the food truck that comes to the caravan park at 6. We ate together in the camp kitchen. All done by 8:30.

Marion and Ken retired to their van. Meg was pooped and went to bed. The rest of us cosied up in Ron and Julie’s van for a game of Five Crowns with a cuppa, chocolate, port, baileys and some nibblies. It was great fun. The van was so warm with the diesel heater and 6 bodies we had to turn it off and put the fan on.

Cards. This was later in the night. So the chocolate, port, baileys, beers and cuppas were long gone.

Needless to say it was rather chilly outside when we were done.
Hot water bottle Billy boiled while I was cleaning teeth, then prepped and into warm bed with electric blanket and hot water bottle. Toasty.
