Day eighteen. Fowlers Bay. 19.7.26

please if you comment, leave your name as mostly I can’t identify who is making comment

Today we farewelled Col and Mary who have a commitment back home to get to.

Meg was keen to do the whale watching tour and Mary and I were happy to go again. Stef phoned and not running today but we can go tomorrow.

The morning sun was shining, and the morning air cool with a bloody cool breeze that we just can’t seem to shake.

A few jobs and relax time around camp was pleasant.

We set our washing off, only to find it out of order half way through the cycle. Got the caretaker, who got the money out and restarted the cycle, claiming too many clothes!!!
We had already chocked the machine up to stop the rocking issue Mary J had last night.
Then Mary and I sat and watched ready to prevent it rocking off balance. (With fingers crossed it was throwing itself off balance due to the missing leg). This gave us time to read and catch up on news etc.

Keeping watch over the machine as it washed our stuff for the second time

Our washing successfully hung out, Meg and Stef encountered similar issues, but got there.

A bit of phaffing- I put another Jerry can of fuel into the car. All by myself – with oversight from Phil and Stef.

Transferring from one Jerry to another in relay – so I can lift it to pour into the car.

After lunch we ventured out without the vans and went to visit the Fowlers Bay sandunes and boy was it fun and hairy.

A quick run up the first dune and we stopped to air down tyres.

We zoomed across these amazing white sand dunes. A bit scary in places but fun.

Then we headed around the headland to Hoppers Viewpoint. A mix of windy sand and rocky tracks and a real maze.

We stopped at several viewpoints and saw:
heaps of dragonflies
Sea eagles
Kangaroos
A sea lion
Huge pods of dolphins with a Southern Right whale and calf we think.

If you listen closely to the end of Meg’s video you can hear whale sound.

Coming back we drove back through the dunes and onto Scott beach driving around to Scott Point. Again a little scary – it feels like something in the car might break and sometimes the sand pulls you in a direction you had no idea about.

Meg’s video of me on the sand.
The colour in sky and sea were stunning.

Home to the caravan park again where it was getting dark and time for nibbles and drinks before tea. We had a very tasty Green Thai Chicken Curry and Meg and Stef an amazing Pasta Alfredo.

Then we took the dishes to camp kitchen to wash up and sat chatting about our plans for the next week and a bit around the amazing fire over there before showers and bed.

Forgot to say yesterday how welcome and wonderful a shower felt after several days relying on wet wipes!
