Day seventeen. Dog Fence Beach Campground to Fowlers Bay. 18.7.26

Rinse and repeat to start the day.

It was a bit breezy during the night with that Westerly wind not abating all night. A little bit of flapping of canvas and buffeting of van, but not enough to disturb a good sleep.

Packed up and pulled out at 10:30.

We took a track back to the west along behind the magnificent white sand dunes through the scrubby wind swept coastal area.

The wind blowing these magnificent dunes.

Red tipped pig face with the sun behind it, green yellow moss hugging the ground catch the sunrays.

Colour beside the track

We got a little along the track and decided it was too tight and slow, which required reversing and turning the vans around (Not my strong point. My skills have got worse).

We slowly made our way back along the fence line which was also tight at times and required some track maintenance along the way – removing loose wise from the track and breaking off dead trees poking into the track as well as some nasty sharp bits of wood here and there. Some more pin stripes on the duco but good fun nevertheless.

Back through the dog fence at the gate and out the way we came.
We detoured off a few kilometres to view some ruins. Very hard to fathom how people thought they could make a go of things out here and we’re seeing it at its best. They would’ve seen it at its worst. There was ruins of a chimney/stove, some machinery ruins what looked like an old cart pretty much all wooden, stockyards, and a short stone walled channel which must’ve run water at some point in the past.

There were a couple of ripper big wombat holes. ( we’d also seen quite a few big burrows in the paddocks. We stayed for lunch and headed off again on a bright blue sky day.

I managed to catch some shots of a dragonfly and other tiny things that fascinate me like moss, and tiny flowers.

Out of Wahgunyah conservation Park and through some paddocks before a right turn onto Chintawanta road. We drove through cropping land and pastured country headed for Fowlers Bay.

Crossing through the paddocks.
Another ruin in the padddocks.

Coming into Fowlers Bay we saw our second lizard of the trip a stumpy tail which I managed to swerve around and Mary stopped for a photo.

Arrived into Fowlers Bay about 3 o’clock and were lucky enough to secure four sites at the Caravan Park same corner as we stayed last year. After much umming and aghing we finally got ourselves settled in. The Jacksons are leaving us tomorrow and heading for home. The rest of us are staying two nights here.
It took us quite a while to figure out how we’d best fit.

Oops, Dundeks camper being jacked up after slipping on the jockey wheel

Then set up, before having our much awaited and appreciated showers in time to walk over to the Jetty for sunset at 5:50.
There were some intense colours to try and capture.

We ambled home for some nibbles and drinks before tea time.

The night was a little chilly but not blowing as much as the last two nights.
After a nice easy day it was pleasant to sit with a couple of drinks and a cuppa and Shitbox biscuit before bed.

  1. I had to re-read when you mentioned Wahgunyah. Thought you’d travelled back. The only Wahgunya I know is on border, Vic side of Corowa!!
