Way out West 2025. 21st of July. Day four

Muloorina Station SA to William Creek via Level Post Bay.

Happy Birthday Pete B.

Another cool crisp night, cool out but with the right clothes and a fire you can stay warm.
It was magic last night stargazing into the ink dark sky and twinkling stars. No moon so awesome.

Tea last night was a solid camp oven Butter Chicken.

Went for a walk to the loo this am and walked back along the creek saw a little bird. Maybe a Black Fronted Dotterell. Took a couple of phone shots and returned with the camera.

Breakfast and pack up and I jumped in with Stef in the disco to head out to see what we could see of Lake Eyre from Level Post Bay. A 100km round trip over reasonably annoying corrugations.

I was stoked to see that there was water in the Lake. So much water as far as the eye could see to the north. Cooper Creek has started flowing into the lake in the past few days and assists the filling this far down. There. Is still a long way to go to be full and into the Goyder Channel and Lake Eyre south. But who knows what will happen.
You are not allowed onto the lake at all but unfortunately some people cannot help themselves and there are footprints across the salty sand to the lake.

Back to camp to hook up, then back into Marree to fuel up vehicles and humans.

206kms from Marree to William Creek – a pretty rough road in place and not a nice headwind and quite dusty in places.

Nevertheless we managed to negotiate the corrugations and arrived into William Creek to the usual windy/dusty conditions.
When I pulled up I noticed liquid dripping under the car – OMG – what now!!! First thought was I’d cooked a shocker, but it turned out to be water from the stainless steel tank in the back of the car. Better than a shocker or fuel, but still a pain in the proverbial.
Over to the pub to book our campsites, two powered and one unpowered. Booked out for dinner due to the wind – which is a bugger.
Anyway we got our sites sorted and then it was time to inspect the problem. There was water all through the carpet and under the back seats. I had to remove all the stuff in the back seats and footwells and get the seats folded forward. In short, the fellas to the rescue again. We removed the tank and emptied the remaining water into whatever drink bottles, billies and containers we had. Took the tank out and tested it, the side has split and allowed the leakage of about 2/3rds of 46 litres.
We removed all the plastic bits and the rear seats and dried the carpet and felt as best we could. Then stuck the portable heater in the car to assist the drying process. Meanwhile Mary was cooking tea, Lamb Korma and rice and vegetables. Very bloody nice.

A drink while tea was cooking

After another day on the road and having to do all that to the car, I’m tired and peed off that something else has gone wrong.

Video of the split in the tank.

Bonus of a campground tonight is a shower and bed will be lovely, once I clear a patch on the bed!!!
It’s windy but not yet cold. (Electric blanket might come in handy).
Once again I owe everyone for their help and moral support.
Fingers crossed I’m done with drama for this trip.

After a tiring day, the shower at William Creek Campground was awesome. One of the best. Now tucked up in bed, ready to snooze. Blog written but pics not sorted yet.
