Awesome African Adventure 2025

Prologue:

The seeds for this awesome African Adventure were sewn during our 2023 Antarctica and South America trip.

Further discussions took place in 2024 and Suzie (yep, that’s Aunty Sue. Easier to use Suzie when travelling) had asked me if my friends would mind if she tagged along? I was pretty sure that would be okay. As it turned out Steve was unable to commit to the April 2025 time frame and indicated that we should go ahead without him.
The challenge during 2024 was to quarantine time to meet and plan. Mary and Phil had a 10 week trip overseas. Suzie had two trips overseas. (One was our Sth Korea trip)
We finally squeezed our first gathering in July 2024 at Mary and Phil’s in Traralgon where we sketched out some options.
We landed on Uganda and Tanzania and as we were looking at maps, realised the flight HOME would fly over Madagascar so we threw that one into the mix as well.

Some of the planning documents

Suzie has travelled in Africa before and had some contacts in both Uganda and Tanzania and given it was my idea about Madagascar I was tasked with follow-up regarding those options . Mary and Phil were busy getting ready for their 10 weeks away and were happy to go with whatever we decided pretty much.

New luggage – Cases are not allowed/not preferred on Safari.

Throughout August Suzie, weaved magic with her connections with Wilson Ishmael and indomitable Eve from Ride for a Woman. There is more of a story here but will leave that to somewhere along the way – on the road or plane or boat. Madagascar research landed us with Raw Africa Ecotours who are ironically located in Williamstown – just across the bridge from Aunty Sue!!

Emails were flying and Keith (yes that’s uncle Keith) was charged with the job of Flight director. I’m sure this is a task he regrets as it has not been straightforward.

Just some of the texts/emails flying around relating to several flight changes and cancellations.

A second gathering took place in September this time at Aunty Sue’s in St Kilda where we narrowed things down and looked at final bits and pieces.
The planning for any trip is half the fun, paying for it not so much but money is made to go around.

So as I dictate this on my walk in the last week of work before taking leave I’m gonna put a full stop in this post and leave the rest to the road.

Hope you enjoy travelling along with us. I’ll do my best to post as I go.

This meme took my fancy. And I’ve been a Charlie Brown fan.
