Madi’s Manoeuvres. Muloorina Station to Algebuckina Waterhole. Day 6- 6 June 2024.

Kate is sleeping in a black swag, as we were milling around over breaky, Mary noticed some paw prints on the side. Perfect cat prints. I did hear Kate moving around more than any other night. Perhaps it was the visitor.

With Half Post Bay to Lake Eyre closed, today we head back towards Marree and turn North heading in the direction of Mt Dare.

The Oodnadatta track is open today to vehicles under 3 tonnes. So far we have seen vans and Chevrolets etc. lots of people choosing to ignore the rules.

Here we are driving through the dog fence on Muloorina Station. The siren is to scare animals away from the grid

The track is actually pretty good most of the time however some muddy sections where straying from the wheel tracks could be deadly.

We stopped at Lake Eyre South where you could see the water with binocs.

Some sculptures along the track.

We came across a group we saw at Farina, Marree and last night at Muloorina with one vehicle – a Ranger Ute rolled over. Very sobering to see. Everyone was ok, but I’m sure it’s ruined their plans.

Then a little further down the track a huge Chevy Ute and van were broken down in the middle of the track. The road gang working a little further along had come to their rescue- maybe. The bonnet was up so no clue beyond that.

Coming into William Creek, Phil copped two rocks and a broken windscreen.

Lunch of leftover roast meat and veg and a coffee from the WC Hotel put a full stop on the best part of the day at about 1:30.

Inside the William Creek pub.

We rolled out of town at 2:53 and had a good run along the track to camp at Algebuckina Waterhole. Wood was scarce but Mary and I were determined and found a fair bit. The big challenge was the toilet hole, evidently very hard ground, the fellas persisted and dug two holes in preparation for ten bodies.

When looking for wood we saw quite a few wildflowers.

Then headed over to look at the Waterhole.

We have leftovers for tea tonight so pretty easy night.

The fire.
My car and bed tonight – thanks Mary.
