Moving house, test one and won. 13 March.

Despite rain overnight there was some colour in the sunrise and reasonably clear and sunny morning.

I slept soundly, and between 8 and 9 blissful hours. Feeling good. Started packing prior to breaky and did a RAT test. Steve tested last night and Mary also this morning- so far, so good. This test reduces the anticipatory nerves a little. For those who don’t know, we have to have a negative COVID test prior to boarding our Aurora Expeditions Cruise. We could have a PCR but needed to be in Buenos Aires which didn’t work for our itinerary. We need to RAT test with Aurora tomorrow we think. So a practice run today is good. We do wonder what more we can do to stay negative as very few others are masked.

My test result.

After breaky, final pack, check out, and pull our cases around 450m down the hill to our next hotel Las Hayas Resort which is the Aurora hotel. We checked our bags and prepared to catch the courtesy bus to town, however decided to walk after Phil had a glitch with his leg. Nice wander into town

There was a huge ship in this morning. Almost obscene in the small port. We walked around town in search of some gloves for Steve and socks for Phil. We struck siesta time so many places shut between 1 and 4pm. I got a piece of art for my ‘travel wall’. We found this giant building with a neon sign on it, but NO name. We walked closer and still no info, then up the side to find nothing, with shops on the other side. The research says it’s Gobierno de Tierra Del Fuego SONOS. still working on this one! After a small lunch of empanada and fries and a submarino (the best hot chocolate) we wandered the streets then down to the port to see that bloody big ship and to find our courtesy bus home at 3pm. It was a full little bus.

Back at hotel, we joined the queue at Aurora folk and got our room keys. At the Aurora check in we needed to do our COVID declaration and book in for our RAT tomorrow. We also learn that the cabin Steve and I had been allocated 431 is not on the list. We are now in 705 so a long way from Mary and Phil which is a bummer. Although it seems to be an upgrade, time will tell. We are booked for our Aurora RAT at 8.30 in the morning. After rearranging things in our cases a bit, we met in the bistro and cocktail lounge for a drink or two – those Pisco Sours are moorish. We decided to catch the courtesy bus into town for tea. Our room is quite small compared to last one, but well equipped and will do the job for one night.

The bus arrives and departs from the port. We walked through the exit area abs onto the dock and had a wander around. Then up into town for a tiny bit of shopping. Mary a beanie and Phil some socks then dinner tonight at Brix Bar cafe then the 9.00 bus home and are just in the lounge having a cuppa and sorting photos and blog. Tomorrow arvo we finally board the ship – assuming we pass our RAT in the morning.

So to bed. Last sleep on land until April 4. Wow!

  1. EEKKK!!!! Finger, toes and legs crossed, hope the RAT goes well, what a stress!! If it comes up positive ask to do another or three just to make sure. Once again how’s the temperature ? How much luggage are you allowed? Excited to see your cabin, who are you sharing with ? Those cruise ships are certainly imposing.
