5.4.2026 – Day 3 – The Girls International Whirlwind Restaurant Tour. Jan. 2026:A full day in Bali.

Sleep was lovely, I was last to the lounge this morning after a bit of washing and phaffing, about 9am.
We headed off with brollies in hand, as it had been raining overnight.
Breaky at Baker’s Bistro near Bintang Supermarket. Very nice although three of us were disappointed that overnight oats was not available.

Then we checked on a place for massages later in the day.
We headed off to look around the shops, streets, temples and galleries on the way to the Bali Bombing Memorial…or so we thought. Turned out we left when we should have gone right. So we stopped for a drink and sorted ourselves out.

The Temples are ever present as are offerings dotted along the street in front of businesses and in the smaller street side temples that are in every home. I learned this from Google “Whosoever offers to me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water, that offering of love, of the pure heart I accept (ix:26)”

This is part of a conversation between Khrisna and Arjuna and it makes it very clear what is execpted as an offering. Each offering must contain each of the individual components that are mentioned in the verse.

The Balinese provide offerings to help maintain balance between the Hindu Gods and the spiritual realm and the mortal realm of people.

The walk along the streets of Seminyak made me wonder how all the businesses survive. SO many bars, tattoo parlours, massage places and clothing, jewellery and other stores, not many people making purchases.

Cab to the memorial.

Here we reflected on the lives lost, with Australia losing 88 lives. We spent some time figuring out who some of the other 20 countries whose citizens were killed.

Next we headed of to check out the nearby Uniqlo.
Bron made some purchases and then we decided to walk back along Kuta Beach for a bit before arranging a lift back to Seminyak where we booked a massage with Kimberley spa which I really enjoyed.
Kuta beach was a bit of a shock to be honest – it was dirty with lots of rubbish and again many stalls of tourist tack, surf schools, bars etc. the seabreeze was pleasant.

HOME to the Villa via supermarket for some pre-pre-dinner drinks. Given there was no lunch today, we enjoyed our newly purchased chips with a duty-free Roku special Traveler gin with tonic and the amazing Ginger, lemongrass and lime concoction we had enjoyed on arrival yesterday- made for a rather awesome G&T.
We had a short turnaround after drinks to ready ourselves for dinner and onto the bikes with Made, Ketut, Aunger and our fourth driver was Mira.
Saltlick restaurant is our destination. The bikes ducked and weaved down lanes and streets, even passed by a rice field in the city.
We were treated to sunset views from the balcony for pre dinner drinks. A really cool kite was flying that caught our attention.
Saltlick meal and service was amazing. Very meat based and comparatively expensive in Bali terms – but the value for money was well worth it. Just under $100 bucks a head for drinks and steak all round.
Bikes home again with Made and crew.
Made is a friend of Keith’s (uncle) and he has a bike hire business here in Seminyak. Keith has been supporting Made and his business for 15+ years, and Made has been looking after our transport needs. A lovely positive bloke.

Oh and here’s a video of the bike ride.

And one of the cool kite too.

  1. the kite is amazing! I’d be afraid I’d smash land it! Ketut, like a sunrise! (Someone had to say it! ) Dining experience looked very nice! Shame about the beach but have heard similar, better beaches elsewhere! Enjoying following along!

  2. The buttermilk pancakes looked like a great substitute for overnight oats and the steaks were mega impressive. Think I’d better have a full belly before reading your blog!

Love the things you notice and capture in photos for us! The kite, offerings and sunset sky pics were fab!

Were people living in the tents near the rice paddy?

Expect small number of other visitors means you get more touting for business, I never enjoy that!
