Way out West 2025. 9th of August.  Day twenty-three.

Nullabor Roadhouse campground to Fowlers Bay CP

Packed up this morning unhitched the van and we backtracked the 72 kilometres to the Bunda cliff view point. Stef and Phil had a chat to Richard and Family (Laverne, Sara and Jackson) and the plan was to check out the cliffs, pick up the vans, follow Richard and Family towards Ceduna. Stef has offered to follow them to Ceduna and come back and meet us at Fowlers Bay.

The view of the Bight was equally spectacular today as it was last night. The light really brought out the blue hues in the water and the foam line in the water mirrored the line of the cliffs. The sea was calm so only small waves crashing into the rocky base of the cliffs.

We chatted with Laverne and Sarah and all decided to stop at Fowler’s Bay instead.

Richard headed off first with the hope that his battery will keep going. Sara went to chase him as he was unaware of the new plan.
We had roadhouse junk for lunch- mine was a yummy Spinach and Feta Sausage Roll and Farmer’s Union Iced Coffee (a bit of a ‘nod’ to Dad who was partial to their iced coffee.)

Then we were off to see how far Richard gets.

Entering Fowlers Bay.

Well, we didn’t catch him until Fowlers Bay. He couldn’t restart the car once he stopped or close the window. A quick jump start and we all got almost the very last sites in the CP. Mary ran into an ex colleague from Maryvale Hospital as we were checking in so they joined our group in four unpowered sites for $100 – very good value.
We had arrived about 3pm so had a bit of time up our sleeve.
We squeezed us all into the four sites and chatted with the newcomers – Robyn and Laurie from Willow Grove.

It was nice and warm and I actually broke out the shorts for the first time this trip.

A coffee at the shop/PO/caravan park reception followed by a walk out to the jetty was next.

We actually saw some Southern Right Whales from a distance and talked to Mark on the jetty who regaled us with stories of his cruise with EP cruises today – they saw 33 whales! Mary and I plan to go tomorrow morning.
We returned to camp to put on some warmer clothes and get our larger lens for the camera before heading out again to catch some whales and the sunset while the rest of the crew broke out snacks and drinks at the CP campfire.
We got more than we bargained for on the jetty (no whales close enough to photograph) sunset and moonrise.

Then we headed back to grab a drink and join the others at the fire – quite a big group now with the addition of Richard (Goose), Laverne, Sara, Jackson, Robyn and Laurie. We discussed the plans for tomorrow and we booked 6 of us on the Whale Cruise and the boys are going to drive/play on the dunes.

Mary and Stef cooked Chilli con carne for tea and we sat around the fire till 10ish then showers and bed.
