Awesome African Adventure. Day 12-April 20, 2025

Buhoma Village. Easter Sunday.

Sleep in this morning- breaky is booked for 9am. Then we are heading off to church with Eve and Dennis.

I wore my good clothes and grateful I did, people were coming from everywhere by foot, by car and of course by Bodaboda all dressed in their Sunday best and finery.

So many people. Dressed as we would to go to a formal/‘official event.

The girl in the middle is Diana – from Eliza’s cafe (our coffee experience)

As we arrived the congregation was singing the National anthem, we stood outside and listened.

Singing the National Anthem.

Then in we went. The church seemed full but people continued to file in. The church wardens had a challenge to find room on the pews and were bringing plastic chairs to seat everyone. The service was in local language. Eve did a great job translating the gist of it.

Next door the children had Sunday school, we could hear them singing.

The service was really interesting- choir and some musicians somewhere behind us.

We reckon there was 4-500 in the church.

There was songs, sermons, announcements, offertories, dancing l, praying and singing with a the choir.

An amazing experience.

We left after the offertory and headed home for our 1pm lunch.

The kitchen had prepared an Easter special – a whole grilled chicken and fries, rice, salad, veggies, sauce and stuffing.

I was given the job to carve the chook. Let me tell you they have stronger tendons than our chickens.

As always the food was delicious. Dessert was the rest of Mary’s cake.

Then a surprise arrival. Faith -the young girl Suzie has been sponsoring for 8 years. Eve had received a call from Eve’s boarding school teacher during church service to say Faith was on her way to see us. She travelled the 100km via bodaboda to spend about 30 minutes with us, before a quick visit to her parents (who don’t know she is coming) before returning the 100km to school. The trip is 3-4 hours.

Suzie was so happy to see Faith as we weren’t confident of seeing her. We had planned to be here at Easter with the expectation that Faith would come home for Easter. The school was having exams so she wasn’t coming home. Thanks to Eve for making the short visit happen. Suzie and I both had gifts for Faith, which she took with her.

The afternoon was filled with rain, so we sat around the dining area and chatted, tidied up photos/blog notes.

The rain lasted all arvo, unlike previous days where it stopped after an hour or so.

Wilson, our guide, popped in to say hello and check how everything is going. We leave with him in the morning.

There was a humungus clap of thunder right above us that made us jump.

We sorted out our tips and had a few cups of tea and then it was time for drinks and our last dinner at R4W.

Beautiful French onion soup, shared curried vegetables and rice. Eve had arranged some roasted goat to try – which was very tasty. Dessert was a Cream of Caramel Pudding. Eve and the team gifted us each a Ride 4 a Woman T shirt which is extremely generous and kind.

Home again to pack for tomorrow’s departure.

Please do consider Ride 4 a Woman for your stay, Gorilla Tracking and activities in Uganda. They have everything and you are also helping a whole community in the process.
