Madi’s Manoeuvres.Jervois (Jer – voice) Station to Hay River Track/Lake Caroline junction. Day 14- 14 June 2024.

When cleaning my teeth last night this strange critter was on my ‘spitting’ tree.

Departed Jervois at 9:10. All fuelled and watered up. Now we tackle the Horror stretch fully loaded.

Our camp was beside the Marshall River which I had a little look at this morning. A typical outback sandy riverbed with magnificent gums All gnarled from years of being bashed by debris in floods.
Took a group shot in front of the campground sentinel Ghost Gum.

Signpost to Jervois.
Our group shot of us at the sentinel ghost gum.

The Horror Stretch was still horrible- prob more so today as travelling slower with full load. Roof racks are creeping backwards today. We met a group of three vehicles stopped, towing a camper trailer that had a broken a shock.

Back through the Hay River at 11:45 so a 2.5 hour trip with a few short stops to cover about 75 kms.

Pulled up for lunch about 12.30 under some shade and a clear spot.
Crossed back over the Tropic of Capricorn about 2:30. No pics this time!

Through Batton Hill.

The colours and shapes continue to be amazing just so quintessentially Outback although green at the moment.

Milani gave me Puss in Boots in 2010 in Port Augusta prior to our Anne Beadell trip. He has taken every outback trip.

The terrain keeps changing with different shrubbery, grasses and trees and the track changes from sand red dirt and back again. all the while the river to our right and dunes to our left.

Kate spotted a lizard in the left wheel rot turned out to be a thorny devil just beautiful in the light. Unfortunately, we think he was injured so we set it aside and kept on our way.

We turned right through the hay River to head out to Lake Caroline.
There were lots of clay pants holding water pretty amazing to see so much water in the desert
In some respects with the gibber rock and red dirt, it almost looks like a moonscape.

The patterns of water in the sand and the peeling clay have the most amazing textures and shimmer in places.
Our timing though bit late in the day was perfect for golden hour as the sun is setting the colours deepened and we’re so rich.

Mary J took a pic of Mary M and I taking pics.

Returning back to the main track and our camp by the river, the reflections in some of the water in clay pans were just magnificent really lucked it on this one.

Our cars on the edge of Lake Caroline at a small bluff of sand.
And from the other side.

Returning to camp through the river.
