Today we sadly leave Rapa Nui. We’ve all agreed that 7 days here would be the way to go. The way the limited flights to Island work it’s either 4 days or 7.
We have business class flight today as it was the only option to get off the Island.
We were not clear of pick up time for our 12:15 flight but we walked to the Rapa Nui Museum – which was free and very informative. The displays reiterated a lot of what we’d learnt from Isabelle. The museum houses the only remaining original Moai eye on the island, along with lots of tools and other artefacts. The eyes were made of coral and were removable. Lots were destroyed in the intertribal wars. Island elders made a decision in the 1980’s to put permanent eyes in the Moai at Tahai. (I had a photo in an earlier post)

Walking back to the hotel we were met by Rodrigo in the bus to pick us up. We also picked up James.
It’s a tiny airport so we were scanned and then checked in via business class which got us into the waiting area a bit quicker and we snagged a table in the open air, grabbed some coffees and lunch.

James joined us and then later Anja also. Barry swung by a couple of times and Sophia also joined us and Maria and H also for a little bit. These folk were all on our tours and being English speakers we sort of bonded. Nice bunch of people.
Business class was wonderful. I was row 2 and Mary and Phil were further back and none of us snagged a window. We all want to upgrade for the next flight – LOL. I tried to explore the options but didn’t get far unfortunately.

Back to Santiago and gate 17 which is a long walk back to terminal. Bags were out quickly and we were met by Carolina and Juvenal for our transfer back to Hotel Fundador.
We were fed well on the plane, so a quick settle in before heading to the bar for a nightcap.
